MTR completes first phase of Tung Chung Line Extension track diversion
Hong Kong-bound trains to switch to new track section linking future east station.
MTR Corporation has completed the first phase of major track diversion works for the Tung Chung Line Extension, with Hong Kong-bound trains set to use a new track section from 13 September.
The railway operator said the new section will connect to the future Tung Chung East Station and has completed testing and statutory inspections.
Journey times towards Hong Kong will remain broadly unchanged, whilst train frequencies will stay the same, it added.
MTR will begin the next phase of works, which will involve dismantling part of the former Hong Kong-bound track to create space for a new Tung Chung-bound track.
Further turnout installation works are scheduled for late 2026 and 2027.
