Gov’t mulls new rules for ride-hailing platforms
It will cooperate with the taxi trade to discuss enhancements.
The Transport Department has arranged a meeting with the taxi trade to discuss ways to enhance service quality in the sector.
The government is considering the use of online or mobile applications to provide personalised point-to-point transport services.
“Taxi services must be improved; online car-hailing platforms must be regulated; and illegal hire-car services must be combated in accordance with the law,” the department said.
The government will also formulate legislative proposals to regulate online car-hailing platforms, the vehicles providing such services, and licensing requirements for drivers.
