Gov’t boosts transport services with new taxi regulations
Initiatives will commence in July, with more proposals in the pipeline.
The government has implemented a Taxi-Driver-Offence Points system, a two-tier penalty system, and introduced a taxi fleet regime to provide quality services to passengers through systematic management and technology.
The five selected taxi fleet operators will commence services by the end of July.
The government also proposed mandating the installation of in-vehicle cameras, dash cameras, and global navigation satellite systems in all taxis, as well as requiring taxi drivers to provide e-payment options.
In addition, the government plans to formulate legislative proposals in 2025 to regulate online car-hailing platforms, the vehicles permitted to provide services under the regulations, and the relevant licensing requirements for drivers.
