Towngas fuels Hong Kong development towards green shipping
Green methanol memorandum signed to increase near-zero carbon bunker.
The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) signed memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with both the Transport and Logistics Bureau (TLB) and Pacific Basin Shipping Limited (Pacific Basin) on 25 June, supporting Hong Kong as a green maritime fuel bunkering and trading centre.
Towngas will supply marine green methanol, a near-zero carbon fuel, to Hong Kong’s shipping industry.
TLB will also incorporate Towngas into Hong Kong’s green maritime fuel business cooperation platform.
Towngas will also work with local shipping company Pacific Basin to establish a framework for green methanol supply cooperation.
It is not the first MOU signed by Towngas to support green methanol market deployment, as the company built a complete green methanol supply chain in Hong Kong with Chimbusco in November 2024.
Located in Inner Mongolia, Towngas’s green methanol production is expected to increase from 100,000 tonnes to 150,000 tonnes by the end of 2025.
