Overall marine vessel arrivals fell in Q3 as the number of ocean vessel arrivals dipped 3.5% YoY to 6,784 units whilst river vessels fell 2% YoY to 39,109, according to data from the Census & Statistics Department.

However, total capacity increased by 1% YoY to 107.7 million net registered tonnes for ocean vessel arrivals and 3% YoY to 29.4 million net registered tonnes.

In the first nine months of the year, ocean vessel arrivals decreased by 3.0% YoY to 20,206, whilst total capacity went up 5% YoY to 319 million net registered tonnes. River vessel arrivals similarly rose 0.8% YoY to 118 049, with total capacity also increasing by 8.2% to 89.6 million net registered tonnes in 9M17.

Pleasure vessels and fishing vessels plying exclusively within the river trade limits are excluded.
