Unemployment up 3.7% in May-July 2025

Underemployment remained at 1.4%.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Hong Kong rose to 3.7% for May to July, up from 3.5% in April to June, the Census & Statistics Department reported.

Underemployment remained at 1.4%. Total employment reached 3,671,300, up 14,000, whilst the labour force increased by 22,700 to 3,816,200.

Labour & Welfare Secretary Chris Sun said the rise in unemployment is partly due to fresh graduates and school leavers entering the labour market.

He added that continued economic growth and government measures to boost consumption and attract investment should create more job opportunities.
