5.1-year waiting time recorded for public rental housing

7,900 quarterly placements contributed to the one-year reduction.

The Composite Waiting Time (CWT) for subsidised public rental or light public housing reached 5.1 years as at end-September 2025, according to the Housing Bureau.

The figure represents a one-year decline from the 6.1-year level recorded before the current-term government assumed office, reflecting progress in allocating available units.

About 7,900 general applicants were housed in Q3, comprising 1,600 newly completed public rental units, 4,000 recovered flats and 2,300 light public housing units, the press release noted.

Light public housing applicants recorded an average waiting time of 3.1 years since allocations began in Q1, whilst the bureau maintained its target to reduce overall waiting time to 4.5 years by 2026-27.
