Gov’t launches pro-bono mediation scheme for water seepage disputes

Parties can conduct mediation by submitting a request through eBRAM’s platform.

Hong Kong’s Agency for Volunteer Service and non-profit organisation eBRAM International Online Dispute Resolution Centre (eBRAM) launched the Pro-bono Online Mediation Scheme for Water Seepage Disputes.

The scheme aims to resolve conflicts and disputes between property owners and occupants in Hong Kong caused by water seepage issues free of charge.

When water seepage issues arise, involved parties can conduct mediation by submitting a request through eBRAM’s platform. It will then arrange for independent and neutral volunteer mediators to mediate the parties’ dispute.

The scheme has received support from the ‘Joint Office’ by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department and the Buildings Department.

According to the Joint Office, there have been an average of over 40,000 complaints per year on water seepage issues with cases in which the source of water seepage was identified averaging around 5,800 cases per year.
