AIA profit surges 69.2% to $4.3b in H1 2026
Shareholders received $3.6b through dividends and buy-backs.
AIA Group Limited’s consolidated net profit for the six months ended 30 June jumped 69.2% year-on-year (YoY) to $4.3b.
AIA Group reported a 10% increase in value of new business (VONB) to $3.2b in the first half of 2026, as the insurer recorded double-digit growth across several key financial measures.
The Hong Kong-listed insurance group said its results for the six months to 30 June showed continued growth in new business, earnings and cash generation.
Growth rates were reported on a constant exchange rate basis unless otherwise stated.
VONB rose 14% when Thailand was excluded. Annualised operating return on embedded value (ROEV) reached a record 18.0%, compared with 15.8% for the full year 2025.
Embedded value equity increased 6% per share during the first half on an actual exchange rate basis, reaching $83.4b.
Operating profit after tax (OPAT) increased 13% per share, whilst AIA said it now expects to exceed its target of 9% to 11% compound annual growth in OPAT per share between 2023 and 2026.
AIA returned $3.6b to shareholders through dividends and share buy-backs during the first half. Its board also approved a 10% increase in the interim dividend to 53.9 Hong Kong cents per share.
Group chief executive and president Lee Yuan Siong said VONB reached a record $3.2b, with growth across all distribution channels and all reportable segments except Thailand.
AIA's Premier Agency recorded 11% VONB growth excluding Thailand. Its network of strategic distribution partners generated an 18% increase in VONB, supported by growth in bancassurance, independent financial adviser and broker channels.
Lee said AIA expects to exceed its OPAT per share growth target for 2023 to 2026.
