Apple sees Hong Kong as data center site

Hong Kong will host Apple’s first overseas data center.

Persistent reports point to Apple opening a huge data center in Hong Kong to better serve its fast-growing Chinese market. The Chinese-language Hong Kong Economic Times said Apple is eyeing the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks at the Tsueng Kwan O Industrial Estate in the city’s southeast.

Apple previously said that it plans to begin work on its Hong Kong data center in the first quarter of 2013, and that it plans to open the facility in 2015.

Having a data center in Hong Kong will allow Apple to accelerate the delivery of online services to China and the region.
