Restaurant receipts edge up 0.4% to $27.2b in Q2
Total purchases also rose 2.5% to $8.8b during the period.
Hong Kong’s restaurant receipts rose 0.4% year-on-year in value to an estimated $27.2b in the second quarter (Q2), although sales volume fell 0.4% after accounting for price changes.
Restaurants’ total purchases increased 2.5% to $8.8b during the quarter, according to the Census and Statistics Department.
Total receipts of Chinese restaurants saw a 1.5% increase in value and a 0.7% rise by volume.
Receipts at non-Chinese restaurants grew 1.6% in value and 1% in volume.
Fast-food shop receipts fell 1.5% in value and 2.5% in volume, whilst bar receipts declined 3.8% and 4.6%, respectively.
Miscellaneous eating and drinking establishments recorded decreases of 2.7% in value and 3.6% in volume.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, restaurant receipts fell 0.5% in both value and volume in Q2.
For the first half of the year, receipts increased 0.8% in value from a year earlier but declined 0.1% in volume.
By month, the value of restaurant receipts rose 0.9% in April and 0.6% in May before falling 0.5% in June.
In volume terms, receipts increased 0.2% in April, declined 0.2% in May and dropped 1.3% in June.
