Restaurant activity picks up as total receipts hit $28.8b in Q2

The total value of bar sales outpaced that of Chinese restaurants.

Hong Kong’s restaurant sector maintained its positive momentum as total receipt value rose 6.6% YoY to $28.8b in Q2, according to the Census and Statistics department.

The climb extends a stable 10% gain in restaurant activity registered in the first quarer.

In a breakdown, total receipts of bars booked the largest increase in value at 11% and 12% in volume. Total receipts of non-Chinese restaurants rose 9.4% in value and 6.6% in volume.

Chinese restaurants trailed behind its peers with total receipts rising 4.3% in value and 1.7% in volume.

Analysed on a monthly basis, it was provisionally estimated that the value of total receipts of the restaurants sector increased by 6.2%, 6.5% and 7.1% on a year-on-year basis in April, May and June.
