
HSBC Insurance appoints new chief for HK operations
Effective 25 November 2010, Robert Lang will be joining HSBC’s Executive Committee in Hong Kong.assuming the position of Managing Director for Insurance Businesses in the region.
In a statement, HSBC said Lang will be responsible for developing and growing the life, non-life and Mandatory Provident Fund businesses of HSBC Insurance in Hong Kong,
He will report to David Fried, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, HSBC Insurance Asia Pacific Holdings Limited and to Mark McCombe, Chief Executive of HSBC Hong Kong.
“Hong Kong is one of the most important markets for HSBC Insurance globally. Backed by his broad international experience and industry knowledge, Robert’s appointment will enable us to build on our success in the Hong Kong market and further cement our position as the leading insurance and MPF services provider.
As one of the largest banks in the territory with a strong brand and multi-channel presence, HSBC will continue to capitalise on our bancassurance strength to increase penetration into our existing base of individual and corporate customers.” Fried said.
Lang joined HSBC Insurance as Chief Executive for HSBC Life (UK) Ltd. in August 2006. In 2009 he assumed responsibility for HSBC’s European Insurance businesses before his most recent role as a member of HSBC’s UK Executive Committee as Head of Insurance.
Prior to HSBC, he held several Distribution and Business Development roles in Europe.
Lang holds an MBA from London Business School as well as graduate degrees in Economics and Political Science from Monash University.
