
Exchange Fund foreign assets down $5.6B
Foreign assets of the Exchange Fund's shrank by $5.6 billion from February to $2.0869 trillion in March, according to the Monetary Authority.
The monetary base, comprising Certificates of Indebtedness, Government-issued currency notes and coins in circulation, the aggregate balance and Exchange Fund bills and notes issued, amounted to $1.0478 trillion.
Claims on the private sector in Hong Kong amounted to $127.6 billion during the month, while foreign liabilities, representing mainly obligations under repurchase agreements, amounted to $300 million.
