InvestHK launches outreach in Türkiye, Hungary, and Egypt

The campaign is part of InvestHK’s broader effort to strengthen economic ties along the Belt and Road Initiative.

Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) has launched a strategic outreach across Türkiye, Hungary, and Egypt to position Hong Kong as a key gateway for businesses seeking to expand into Mainland China and the broader Asia-Pacific region.

Director-General of Investment Promotion, Ms Alpha Lau, will lead the mission with visits scheduled in Istanbul, Budapest, and Cairo.

The campaign is part of InvestHK’s broader effort to strengthen economic ties along the Belt and Road Initiative and highlight Hong Kong’s advantages as a global financial and business hub.

In Istanbul on 11 May, Ms Lau will engage with Turkish companies and attend events hosted by the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey.

She will promote Hong Kong’s business-friendly policies, including low taxes, free capital flow, and a common law framework under the “one country, two systems” arrangement.

In 2024, Türkiye was Hong Kong’s 30th largest trading partner, with merchandise trade valued at $16.6b.

On 13 May, the delegation will move to Budapest, where Ms Lau will meet with Hungarian businesses and attend the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference.

Hungary was Hong Kong’s 33rd largest trading partner in 2024, with approximately $9.4b in trade between Hungary and Mainland China routed through Hong Kong.

The final leg of the tour takes place in Cairo on 17 May. Ms Lau will meet Egyptian business leaders and also participate in the Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference. Hong Kong’s bilateral trade with Egypt reached $2.1b in 2024, a 5.4% increase over the previous year.

InvestHK is promoting Hong Kong’s access to the ASEAN Free Trade Area, the Greater Bay Area, and its robust innovation and technology ecosystem, which supports nearly 10,000 overseas and Mainland companies and about 4,700 start-ups.

The visits build on existing partnerships, including a Memorandum of Understanding signed with Egypt in 2023, and a new InvestHK office opened in Izmir, Türkiye, in January 2025, to strengthen bilateral cooperation and support market entry initiatives.
