2025 budget to reflect public views
The public consultation, which began on Sunday, has already received a wealth of feedback.
Financial Secretary Paul Chan will carefully review all opinions gathered through the ongoing public consultation as he prepares the 2025 Budget, Chief Executive John Lee said.
Speaking at the Executive Council meeting, Lee said that the public consultation, which began on Sunday, has already received a wealth of feedback. He said that Chan would give serious consideration to the suggestions and concerns raised by the public.
Despite the budget deficit, Lee expressed confidence that Chan would create a budget focused on increasing revenue, cutting costs, and promoting economic growth, which would help businesses and boost government income.
On the topic of tourism, Lee highlighted the positive impact of the resumption of multiple-entry permits for Mainland visitors from Shenzhen. He reported a noticeable increase in tourist arrivals, especially over weekends, with visitor numbers rising by 20% to 30%.
He expects this trend to continue, particularly with the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations, which will feature a fireworks display for the countdown.
Lee also highlighted opportunities for businesses to capitalize on the growing number of tourists.
