Short-haul and long-haul flight surcharges up 8% and 3%

New rates enable carriers to partially recover operational costs due to fluctuations in aviation fuel prices.

The Civil Aviation Department on Thursday approved increases in passenger fuel surcharges levied by All Nippon Airways, Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines from November, according to a Civil Aviation Department report.

The new maximum surcharges will be $108 for short-haul flights and $521 for long-haul flights, up 8% and 3%.

The surcharges allow airlines to partially recover operational costs due to fluctuations in aviation fuel prices.

As the aeronautical authority, the department considers and approves fuel surcharge applications from the airlines in accordance with bilateral Air Services Agreements.
