Cathay Group welcomes gov't aviation initiatives

The airline also supports efforts to strengthen air connectivity with Mainland China.

Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong’s flag carrier, has welcomed the government's plans to strengthen its status as an international aviation hub, as outlined in the Chief Executive’s 2024 Policy Address.

Key initiatives include the commissioning of the Three-Runway System and expanding the scale of Airport City. Ronald Lam, CEO of Cathay Group, noted that these developments would enable Cathay to handle millions of additional passengers and tonnes of cargo each year, alongside generating new tourism and retail opportunities.

Cathay also supports efforts to strengthen air connectivity with Mainland China and enhance collaboration with Belt and Road countries. The airline aims to expand its network to 100 destinations.

In addition, Cathay welcomed the government’s focus on boosting Hong Kong's mega-event tourism economy and supporting arts and culture, particularly through its long-standing partnership with the West Kowloon Cultural District. It is also a major backer of events like the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens, which promote Hong Kong internationally.

Lam also commended the government's efforts to improve intermodal connectivity within the Greater Bay Area, particularly by strengthening ties between Hong Kong International Airport and Zhuhai Airport. Cathay looks forward to further developing the Fly-Via-Zhuhai-Hong Kong passenger service and expanding international air cargo operations. 

The airline also plans to support the HKIA Dongguan Logistics Park to increase its cargo transshipment capacity.
