DFI and Dingdong launch fresh food supply deal in Hong Kong
The partnership sets a first-year sales target of $100m and began its initial rollout on 9 April 2025.
DFI Retail Group and Dingdong (Cayman) Limited have formed a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing cross-border fresh food supply between mainland China and Hong Kong.
The partnership sets a first-year sales target of $100m and began its initial rollout on 9 April 2025.
As part of the collaboration, six types of vegetables sourced from Dingdong’s supply network are now available in nearly 280 Wellcome stores, as well as through Wellcome’s online shop and food delivery platform foodpanda.
The partnership plans to expand product availability to other DFI supermarket brands, including Market Place and 3hreesixty.
The two companies are also working to develop a digitalised supply chain system that integrates data from sourcing to retail. An AI-driven inventory management system will be introduced to improve supply forecasting and reduce product shortages.
Additionally, traceability features such as product-specific QR codes will allow consumers to access planting and transportation records.
Curtis Liu, CEO of Food at DFI Retail Group, said the collaboration aims to increase the availability and cost-efficiency of fresh produce. Yang Shaoming, Vice President of Dingdong, said the integration of sourcing and distribution systems is intended to broaden access to fresh food in Hong Kong.
Within the first month of the rollout, over 100,000 kilograms of vegetables were sold. The product range is expected to grow to more than 150 items by year-end, including fruits, soy products, ready-to-eat meals, and beverages.
Plans are also in place to explore expansion of the initiative to DFI’s retail operations in Macao and Cambodia.
