Works on Oyster Bay Station project suspended
The BD and EMSD assured the upheavals did not affect the supporting structure and operational safety of the railway tracks.
Works on the MTR Corporation Limited (MTRCL) Oyster Bay Station project were suspended after monitoring found upheaval of 22 to 48 millimetres at five checkpoints, exceeding the dangerous level, said a government spokesman on Thursday.
This exceeded the pre-set trigger level for work suspension of 20mm, and relevant works of the project were suspended on the same day. The monitoring checkpoints were installed on the section of the MTRCL's Tung Chung Line railway tracks near Siu Ho Wan Depot.
The Buildings Department (BD) and the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) confirmed that the upheavals did not affect the supporting structure and operational safety of the railway tracks.
The BD and MTRCL are formulating mitigation measures and adopting construction methods that reduce the impact on railway facilities.
Once the resumption of work application is approved, the BD and EMSD will inform the public.
