Southbound Travel Scheme to be launched to promote transport
Hong Kong will embrace Mainland cars in November.
The Southbound Travel Scheme will launch in November, enabling cars from Guangdong as well as other Mainland vehicles to enter Hong Kong, said the Transport & Logistics Bureau (TLB) on Wednesday.
The first to open in November is the 1,800-slot automated parking set up by the Airport Authority at the Hong Kong Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.
Mainland residents can drive to Hong Kong after simple applications and park their car whilst they either visit the city or transfer departure.
Simultaneously, the TLB will implement arrangements for vehicles entering the city, with a daily quota of 100 vehicles in the initial stage.
“The scheme is an important measure to facilitate the flow of people and vehicles between Hong Kong and the Mainland to promote transportation and logistics, ” said Mabel Chan, secretary for TLB.
