PCCW Global and GalaxySpace ink MoU on LEO satellite market expansion

The satellite expansion will initially focus on Hong Kong and countries along the Belt and Road.

PCCW Global and GalaxySpace signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide low-Earth-orbit (LEO) satellite services to international markets, with an initial focus on Hong Kong and countries along the Belt and Road.

Under the MoU, PCCW Global will expand its satellite offerings by leveraging GalaxySpace’s LEO satellite solutions, whilst GalaxySpace broadens its international market reach through PCCW Global’s extensive network.

The collaboration aims to deliver high-speed connectivity services via LEO satellites to consumers, enterprises, and government customers in remote areas.

LEO satellites reduce latency by 90% compared to traditional geostationary/geosynchronous orbit (GEO/GSO) satellites, enabling new applications for maritime, aero, IoT, drones, and other markets.

Mobile network providers can expand coverage to remote areas with LEO satellites’ direct-to-cell tech, allowing users to access voice, SMS, and broadband via mobile phones or smart devices connected directly to satellites.

PCCW Global’s network spans the Americas, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific, providing international connectivity and managed services to enterprise and wholesale customers in over 3,000 cities.
