New cargo clearance scheme launched in HK, Macau, Guangdong

Real-time monitoring of the cargo was conducted by customs in all three locations using e-locks and GPS technology.

A cargo clearance scheme has been launched to streamline customs inspections and eliminate duplications amongst authorities in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau, the government announced on 8 March.

The first batch of transshipment cargo, transported from the DHL Central Asia Hub (CAH) through the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) and the new Macau Cross-Border Cargo Transfer Terminal, has successfully reached Macau's clearance point.

Under the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Three-Places-One-Lock Scheme, real-time monitoring of the cargo was conducted by customs in all three locations using e-locks and GPS technology. This allowed the cargo truck to bypass duplicate customs inspections and proceed directly to Macau via the HZMB Hong Kong Port.

In the launch ceremony, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau noted the scheme's ability to enhance trade facilitation, leveraging Hong Kong's well-connected transportation network across air, land, and sea.

The scheme, fostering a new "green lane," is expected to boost cargo clearance efficiency and unlock business opportunities for the logistics industries in the three regions.
