Gov’t seeks to lure more high-quality maritime firms
Chief Executive John Lee wants to develop more vibrant maritime services.
After Hong Kong’s shipping and maritime industry faced challenges in the past two years, Chief Executive John Lee said they are seeking to entice more high-quality maritime firms.
“The Hong Kong SAR Government endeavours to attract more high-quality maritime businesses to Hong Kong and in turn, develop an even more vibrant maritime services cluster,” said Lee during a forum.
Lee cited that they have begun a half-rate profits tax concessionary regime for qualifying shipping commercial principals, ship agents, ship managers, and ship brokers.
The government will also develop maritime talent and promote the development of a small port.
Apart from this, Lee said they also vow pushing for sustainable development in its maritime sector.
“As part of our decarbonisation efforts, we are pressing ahead with the provision of liquefied natural gas bunkering for ocean-going vessels in Hong Kong, and implementing the latest requirements of the International Maritime Organization,” said Lee.
