Lalamove and HKPC partner to launch AI system for road safety
The system uses real-time data and machine learning to detect high-risk driving behaviors.
Lalamove has partnered with the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) to roll out a new AI-Driven Driving Behavior Prediction System aimed at improving road safety and supporting smart mobility across the city.
Developed by HKPC’s Centre of Advanced Power and Autonomous Systems (APAS) and funded by the Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF), the system will be integrated into Lalamove’s mobile apps in the coming months.
The system uses real-time data and machine learning to detect high-risk driving behaviors such as harsh acceleration, sudden braking, frequent lane changes, and mobile phone use whilst driving.
It operates through mobile sensors and a cloud-based inference engine, providing immediate feedback to drivers and offering a dashboard for fleet managers to monitor trends and assess risk.
APAS served as the technical lead for the project, overseeing data collection, AI model training, backend performance, and mobile integration. The initiative includes a driving behavior scoring system designed to encourage safer driving while minimizing any sense of invasive monitoring.
