
Seven in ten ASEAN consumers purchased Hong Kong goods in 2024: survey
Consumer electronics top the list, favoured by 70% of ASEAN online shoppers.
Hong Kong-made products are becoming increasingly popular amongst ASEAN consumers, with 70% of online shoppers in six major markets having purchased at least one Hong Kong-sourced item in the past year, according to the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).
Amongst the most sought-after categories, consumer electronics top the list, favoured by 70% of ASEAN online shoppers, followed by fashion (38%) and cosmetics/personal care products (34%).
Buyers cite affordability, a blend of Asian and Western design, and stylish appeal as the key reasons for their preference.
The report also highlighted significant spending patterns across ASEAN markets, with Singaporean, Thai, and Malaysian consumers spending the most per purchase on Hong Kong goods.
On average, Singaporean e-shoppers spend $2,883.19 (US$371) per purchase on Hong Kong consumer electronics, followed by Thai shoppers at $2,144.91 (US$276.)
Meanwhile, Thailand leads in overall purchase volume, with 81% of respondents having bought Hong Kong products online in the past year, followed by Indonesia (73%) and the Philippines (69%).
