Sino Group eyes setting up green tech hub in Northern Metropolis
The developer was admitted to a Belt and Road green coalition on 25 October.
Property development company Sino Group is planning to collaborate with the Environment and Ecology Bureau (EEB) to establish an Asia-Pacific Belt and Road (B&R) green technology centre for industry, academia, and research in the Northern Metropolis.
The group said the centre will serve as a platform for training, exchange, and exhibitions, showcasing green technology prototypes and innovations from members of the International Green Development Coalition (IGDC) for the Belt and Road Regions.
The centre is also intended to align with the National 15th Five-Year Plan.
Sino Group and Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd (HKEX) were admitted as new member organisations of the IGDC during the coalition’s second general assembly of members on 25 October.
At the same meeting, Dr Samuel Chui, director of environmental protection, was elected as a council member of the IGDC.
The EEB and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) recently established a platform that connects with the IGDC’s network and facilitates exchange amongst B&R countries and regions in green technology, policy, and capacity-building.
Chui said Hong Kong also set up the B&R sustainable green development training centre this year and organised the B&R Green Innovation Conference 2026, which opens on 26 October and is the first to be held outside mainland China.
“Hong Kong will continue to leverage its strengths and contribute to the nation’s high-quality co-construction of green B&R,” he said.
Jointly established by the MEE and partners from the mainland and overseas, the IGDC aims to initiate open, inclusive, and mutually beneficial international co-operation and action on green development.
The coalition seeks to provide implementing pathways such as sustainable technical solutions, verifiable green finance instruments, digital and intelligent empowerment platforms, and replicable capacity-building paradigms.
