Hong Kong launches smart port system to modernise cargo handling
It tracks sea, land, and air cargo in real time.
Hong Kong has launched a Smart Port system to strengthen its position as a global maritime hub, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po announced.
The Port Community System (PCS) tracks sea, land, and air cargo in real time and connects with Guangdong e‑Port to provide services like One-Data-Multiple-Declarations. Over 3,000 companies have already registered, and authorities plan to use the data to improve efficiency and trade flow.
"Hong Kong will further align with the national maritime strategic development, and elevate our status as an international maritime centre," said Chan in his 2026 Budget Speech. "Meanwhile, we are striving to promote smart logistics and digital transformation in the industry, while expanding our cargo hinterland to secure more transhipment cargo."
New tax incentives for the maritime service industry will also be introduced this year, including half-rate tax for eligible commodities traders.
Additionally, ship registration rules will be revised to allow dual registration for international operations.
This year’s 10th Hong Kong Maritime Week will feature large-scale forums and seminars with international maritime organisations to further raise Hong Kong’s global influence.
