Hong Kong tourists to ‘transform themselves’ through travel
Two-thirds (71%) of respondents consider visiting darker sky destinations.
Hong Kong tourists will take a more intentional approach to exploring the world and use their trips to transform themselves in 2025, according to a Booking.com survey.
Two-thirds (71%) of respondents consider visiting darker sky destinations with 66% planning to reduce the time they spend in the sun and plan activities in the evenings and early mornings (64%).
A further appreciation for the nocturnal world is deepening travellers’ connections with nature, with more than half of travellers (55%) booking accommodation without lights to encourage less light pollution.
Moreover, intergenerational travel is becoming a prominent trend and will take an altruistic approach to ‘Spending Kid's Inheritance’ vacations. Most baby boomers are willing to pay for their children (86%) and their grandchildren (62%) when booking their next trip.
Further, 63% of Hong Kong travellers will leverage technology to make informed travel decisions with 54% showing interest in using artificial intelligence to curate trips.
Additionally, 60% said they would be interested in buying their vacation wardrobe during their trip, jumping to 64% of Gen Z. Meanwhile, 47% would visit thrift stores on vacation with nearly three-quarters (71%) having already bought second-hand products when abroad.
Wellness tourism has also been rising in recent years. Nearly half (49%) are interested in a longevity retreat whilst 58% would pay for a vacation whose sole purpose was to extend their lifespan and well-being.
As such, deep revitalisation is a top priority, from body vibration (56%) and red-light therapies (54%) to cryotherapy (53%) and stem cell treatment (50%). More than two-thirds (74%) are looking for new wellness activities including learning about timed coffee ingestion (49%) and IV therapy (45%).
