YAS deploys AI to adjust premiums for Hong Kong taxis
It will initially cover around 1,000 hybrid and electric taxis.
Insurtech firm YAS has partnered with JOIE, a Hong Kong taxi fleet operated by Tai Wo Management, to roll out an artificial intelligence (AI) driven insurance platform that adjusts premiums based on real-time driving behaviour.
The initiative will initially cover around 1,000 hybrid and electric taxis and is aimed at enhancing road safety, operational efficiency, and insurance transparency for professional drivers.
YAS’s proprietary system scores drivers using live data points such as hard braking, sharp turns, and operating hours.
Risk levels and insurance premiums are adjusted dynamically based on the scores.
The platform also includes a reward system to promote safer driving habits, lower accident rates, and reduce insurance costs.
The partnership will focus on three main upgrade areas: vehicle electrification, insurance structure reform, and improved passenger service.
JOIE is adding new hybrid and electric vehicles to its fleet to improve comfort and environmental performance.
Meanwhile, YAS’s AI-based TAXY platform will offer a usage-based insurance model where safer driving leads to lower premiums.
Upcoming enhancements will include smart passenger features such as in-vehicle AI assistants and trip protection.
For fleet managers, the system provides real-time dashboards for monitoring driver performance, risk levels, and incentive progress, supporting more stable operations and stronger driver engagement.
Tai Wo Management Managing Director Aaron Ng Hoi-shan said the collaboration aims to raise industry standards by using data to manage and reward driver behaviour.
YAS Co-Founder William Lee added that the TAXY solution represents a fundamental shift in how insurance and fleet management operate, with real-world applications for smart mobility.
