Wanted: Web security skills to fight Hong Kong cyber threats

Organizations are looking to enhance their security.

As Hong Kong becomes more cautious about the threat of cyber attacks demand for candidates with strong skills in web security is increasing, says recruiting expert Hays.

According to a release from Hays, in its latest Hays Quarterly Report, the recruiter notes that there is strong demand for Software Developers and Web Security professionals as organisations look to enhance their security.

“Large to medium enterprises are experiencing a growing number of cyber attacks that can potentially impact their growth and image,” says Christine Wright, Managing Director of Hays in Asia.

“To counter these attacks many companies are looking to upgrade their web applications and improve their web security by improving firewall security and using technical skills such as Check Point. This is creating high demand for Security Architects.”

Here's more from Hays:

But it’s not just web security skills that are in demand. Also topping the list of IT jobs in demand are Front-End Developers, IT Relationship Managers, Java Developers and Project Managers with Agile skills.

“There are currently many opportunities for Front-End Developers in Hong Kong due to the increase in software development jobs,” says Christine.

“Companies are working on new projects and initiatives to drive business growth, and they are looking to front-end developers to provide new solutions for increasing efficiency in the front office. The technical skills required include HTML, CSS and Javascript.

“IT Relationship Managers are also in demand as IT jobs are being moved offshore. Companies require relations specialists to manage inter-business activities and make sure technical difficulties are translated and easy to understand.”

According to the recruiter, the need for Java Developers is still ever-present within the technology sector as the programming language is the most used for providing solutions, design, upgrades and migration projects.

“Candidates who have strong knowledge and experience in Java coding and framework design have a strong chance of finding opportunities in the local market,” says Christine.
