One in three professionals struggles with AI prompt writing

Employees say they need clearer guidance on AI-relevant skills (53%), better access to training programs (45%), and more financial/time support (35%).

As artificial intelligence (AI) reshapes the workplace, 33% of professionals in Hong Kong struggle with writing effective AI prompts, Jobstreet reported.

Despite the city's rapid adoption of Generative AI (GenAI)—with 44% of professionals using AI regularly, outpacing the global average of 39%.

Hong Kong workers are also taking a measured approach to reskilling, with 50% of professionals ready to upskill for AI-related changes. This is lower than the Philippines (74%) and Indonesia (72%), but in line with other developed markets like Singapore (53%).

Employees say they need clearer guidance on AI-relevant skills (53%), better access to training programs (45%), and more financial/time support (35%) to effectively transition into an AI-driven workforce.

Unlike professionals in emerging markets such as Indonesia (40%) and the Philippines (35%), Hong Kong workers do not see AI as a major job threat.

Instead, 52% believe AI will impact certain tasks and require some retraining, whilst only 6% fear outright job displacement. However, 23% expect their roles to transform significantly, demanding extensive reskilling efforts.

A key roadblock to AI adoption is the lack of high-quality data, with 35% of Hong Kong professionals citing it as a challenge, slightly above the global average of 32%. Combined with AI literacy issues, this limitation could slow Hong Kong’s AI evolution despite the city’s strong digital infrastructure.
