More than a quarter of workers have side jobs for extra income
Above 30% of side hustlers use the extra money for living expenses.
A recent HR study showed that 28% of professionals have side jobs as a way to monetise their experience and expand their income.
The Robert Walters survey also showed that 33% of these side hustlers use the money for living expenses, 22% use it for their savings, 22% do it for passion, whilst 11% are using it for their discretion.
John Mullally, Managing Director of Robert Walters Hong Kong, said the recent development is fuelled by their uncertainty about the short to medium-term future not only in their current business but also in the job market.
The cost-of-living crisis and widespread layoffs have continued to reshape the jobs market. The study also discovered career cushioning as one of the workplace trends.
Less than 100 respondents participated in the survey. The backgrounds were from tech & transformation (21%), banking & financial services (18%), sales & marketing (14%), accounting & finance (12%), and construction, property & engineering, healthcare, human resources, legal & compliance, and secretarial & support. Nine in ten of them are aged from 27 to 58.
