HK businesses second to last in employee well-being: survey

Hong Kong was second to last in the survey.

Only 1 in 4 or 25% of Hong Kong employers described their workers' well-being as "very good" or "excellent", a survey by solutions firm Aon found.

Hong Kong came in second to last in terms of share or responses, just ahead of Japan with 16%.

However, 68% have valued their well-being since 2020 whilst 54% have invested more in their happiness.

Meanwhile, 89% of Hong Kong employees said well-being is integrated into their overall management, higher than that of Singapore with 85%.

“Employee well-being ranked among the top three priorities for APAC businesses’ human capital strategy, with 67% of employers in APAC saying wellbeing is more important to their company and 48% say it has increased in priority, compared to 2020,” Aon said.

The Asia-Pacific (APAC) region ranked highest in terms of employee well-being; the report showed.

Compared to the global average of 43%, 49% of APAC companies said investment in employee wellbeing initiatives has increased.

Looking at regional peers, the share of those that said well-being in the office environment was excellent are as follows: South Korea (48%), Singapore (35%) the Philippines (30%), and Japan (16%).

In partnership with IPSOS, a prominent global market research company, Aon surveyed human resources and benefits leaders from over 263 companies across 14 countries and sovereignties in the Asia Pacific region, spanning various industries. The survey was conducted between August and November 2022.
