Five HK institutions make it to world’s top 100 universities

The University of Hong Kong placed 11th. 

Five out of nine Hong Kong universities placed in the top 100 of the Quacquarelli Symonds’ (QS) World University Ranking 2026, with four institutions seeing improved rankings.

The University of Hong Kong surged six places to 11, whilst the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology climbed four spots to 32nd, and three places to 44th, respectively. 

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University ranked 54th, whilst The City University of Hong Kong fell slightly to 63 in QS 2026 from 62 in QS 2025. All five universities were funded by the University Grants Committee.

Moreover, the Hong Kong Baptist University rose eight spots to 244, whilst Lingnan University climbed 10 places to 701-710.

The Education University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Metropolitan University also joined the list for the first time, ranking 530 and 781-790 respectively.
