
Visitor arrivals rise 20% YoY in May on holiday boost
Mainland visitors accounted for a significant share of total arrivals.
Visitor arrivals to Hong Kong reached 4.08 million in May 2025, up 20% year-on-year.
Mainland visitors totalled 3.1 million, reflecting a 19% YoY rise.
The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) attributed the increase to the Labour Day Golden Week holidays and city events.
From January to May, visitor arrivals exceeded 20 million, up 12% YoY. Mainland visitors accounted for 15.2 million, a 10% increase from a year earlier.
Non-mainland markets also recorded growth, with tourist arrivals from Australia surging more than 35% YoY. Visitors from Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, and the Philippines rose by over 25% YoY.
