New kiosks streamline HKID, passport applications
The kiosks are located at the Immigration Headquarters in Tseung Kwan O.
Applications for Hong Kong identity cards (HKID) and passports can now be completed simultaneously through the Personal Documentation Submission Kiosks, the Immigration Department announced.
These kiosks, located at the Immigration Headquarters in Tseung Kwan O, provide a self-service option for applicants, enabling them to complete procedures such as electronic form filing and signing, photo taking, fingerprint scanning, and application submission without needing to meet registration officers in person.
The kiosks operate on a walk-in basis, requiring no prior appointments. In the initial phase of the new service, the kiosks will handle three types of HKID replacement applications, including replacements for adult HKIDs for individuals turning 18, replacements for permanent HKIDs following eligibility verification, and replacements of old HKIDs with the new smart ID cards.
Applicants can also use the kiosks to apply for both HKIDs and Hong Kong passports in a single session, avoiding the need for repeated identity verification, photo taking, or form filing. Once processed, IDs and passports may be collected through the Personal Documentation Collection Kiosks located at the Immigration Headquarters.
Additionally, the Immigration Department has shortened the processing time for the new smart HKID from seven to five working days. Applicants will now be able to collect their new HKID the next working day after the application is processed.
