Refuse collected from the Lunar Chinese New Year rose 38%

More than a third came from Victoria Park.

The government reports that an estimated total of 388 tonnes of refuse was collected from 14 Lunar New Year fair sites throughout Hong Kong, an increase of roughly 106 tonnes over last year.

The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department says about148 tonnes were collected in Victoria Park, about 38 tonnes more than in 2012.

The department collected waste wood at Victoria Park venue for the first time this year, sending about four tonnes of discarded plants, bamboo and wooden planks to the Environmental Protection Department 's EcoPark in Tuen Mun for recycling.

The department also gathered about 1,180 unsold pots of flowers and plants donated by fair vendors and delivered them to 184 elderly homes and seven public hospitals.
