'Heavily indebted' Smart Holiday's licence revoked

1,900 travellers are affected.

According to a release, the Travel Agents Registry revoked the licence of heavily indebted GTG International Travel, also known as Smart Holiday.

The registry activated the Travel Industry Compensation Fund application mechanism to help its customers apply for ex-gratia payments.

The company was unable to convince the Registrar that it was capable of continuing business.

Its head office in Cheung Sha Wan will run until January 13 to handle inquiries and distribution of receipts, while its other retail branches will cease operation.

Travellers who wish to apply for ex-gratia payments can call 3151 7945 or 2969 8188.

About 1,900 travellers are believed to be affected, involving about $2.8 million in tour fees.
