Hong Kong to amend complaint system ahead of new medical reform bill
Legislative changes are scheduled for the first half of the year.
The government has started consultations with patient groups on changes to the Medical Council of Hong Kong’s complaint handling process ahead of plans to introduce a bill to amend the Medical Registration Ordinance in the first half of the year.
Secretary for Health Lo Chung-mau said participants at the meeting provided constructive suggestions, and that further discussions would be held with other stakeholders on proposals to improve the council’s complaint handling process.
Separately, the MCHK had earlier submitted a report on improving its complaint handling mechanism to the Health Bureau at the request of the Secretary for Health
The bureau is reviewing the report and the supplementary information provided by the council and will consider the report's recommendations and the council’s operational needs in proposing amendments to the ordinance.
