HK launches CMHHK amidst traditional medicine growth

The launch pairs a new hospital with standards-setting and research support.

The government has launched the Chinese Medicine Hospital of Hong Kong (CMHHK) and the Government Chinese Medicines Testing Institute (GCMTI).

In a speech, Chief Executive John Lee said the launch initiates the start of a Chinese Medicine (CM) ecosystem connecting academic institutions and hospitals, scientific research, and the CM industry.

Meanwhile, Secretary for Health Lo Chung-mau said that the phased commencement of services at CMHHK and GCMTI supports the city’s development in clinical services, talent training, and testing standards.

In line with this, the National Health Commission and the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine plan to promote CM in prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, innovation, and talent training, said Minister of the National Health Commission Lei Haichao.

Lei added that initiatives are underway to establish integrated Chinese and Western medicine centres, train Western doctors in CM, deepen clinical collaboration, and improve service systems connecting the two approaches.
