HA enhances medication dispensing

A maximum of eight weeks’ supply for selected drugs.

Selected medications prescribed for "as needed" use will be dispensed with a maximum of eight weeks’ supply, said the Hospital Authority (HA) on 27 June.

The new arrangement will begin on 3 July. It will include medications such as laxatives, medications to loosen sputum, topical preparations for bruises and pain, and medications to relieve symptoms of episodic illnesses.

HA Chief Pharmacist William Chui noted that patients may stockpile medications at home. He added this is to avoid wastage and improve efficient use of medication resources.

List of the selected medications will be updated on HA’s website.
