Internet use amongst seniors rises to 87% in 2025
Household online access stood at 96.9% across the territory in 2025.
Internet use amongst people aged 65 and above in Hong Kong rose to 87.1% in 2025 from 84.0% a year earlier, according to the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD).
The department's Thematic Household Survey Report No. 86 showed that overall internet use amongst people aged 10 and above increased to 96.4% in 2025 from 95.8% in 2024.
The survey also found that 96.9% of households had internet access at home in 2025, with smartphones the most common device used to connect to the internet at 99.9%, followed by personal computers at 74.7%.
Smartphone penetration remained unchanged from a year earlier at 96.8%.
Mobile payment use amongst people aged 15 and above rose to 72.8% in 2025 from 65.6% in 2024.
C&SD said the survey covered about 10,100 households between July and October 2025 under a scientific sampling scheme designed to represent the population.
