Towngas fuels Hong Kong’s first 200-tonne ‘SIMOPS’ bunkering
COSCO vessel bunkered certified green methanol during cargo operations at Kwai Tsing.
The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) provided 200 tonnes of internationally certified green methanol for Hong Kong’s first simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) bunkering at the Kwai Tsing Container Terminals, the company said on 10 March 2026.
The fuel was transferred to a COSCO SHIPPING container vessel via the methanol dual-fuel bunker vessel DAQING 268.
Towngas said the methanol was produced at the Inner Mongolia VENEX facility, a joint venture with Foran Energy, using technology to convert waste biomass into fuel.
The product has ISCC EU and ISCC PLUS certifications, meeting International Maritime Organization decarbonisation standards.
Towngas said it works with Chimbusco Pan Nation Petro-Chemical Company Limited (CPN) and the Transport and Logistics Bureau, with Towngas producing the fuel and CPN distributing it to shipping customers.
The company is also part of the HKSAR Government’s green maritime fuel business cooperation platform, supplying fuel that meets international standards.
