Unemployment rate sits at 2.8%

There were 112,100 unemployed people from June to August.

The jobless rate for the June to August period clocked in at 2.8%, unchanged from the May-July period.

Based on the data from the Census & Statistics Department (C&SD), the total number of unemployed people from June to August was 112,100.

“Movements in the unemployment rate, not seasonally adjusted, in different industry sectors varied, but the magnitudes were generally not large,” C&SD reported.

Meanwhile, the number of underemployed individuals dropped by 1,600 to 38,900, translating to a rate of  1.1%.

“The ongoing recovery of inbound tourism and local consumption would continue to support the labour market in the coming months,”  Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun said.
