Unemployment rate dips to 4.1%

The total number of unemployed people stood at 161,900.

Hong Kong's June to August unemployment rate was at 4.1%, representing a 0.2 percentage point drop from the May to July period.

Based on the data from the Census & Statistics Department (C&SD), the total number of unemployed individuals from June to August was 161,900, a decrease of  6,300 from the preceding three months.

The number of underemployed likewise fell to 76,400 from 84,300, translating to a rate of 2.0%.

With the decrease in the number of jobless and underemployed individuals, total employment rose to 3,609,300, whilst the labour force was stronger at 3,771,200.

The government said the city's labour market should see an improvement in the near term "with the extent of improvement largely depending on the performance of domestic economic activities."
