HK’s labour force reaches 3.83 million in Q3

Total employment in Hong Kong during was 3.71 million.

The total labor force in Hong Kong reached 3.83 million in Q3 2024, a slight increase from 3.82 million in the previous quarter, according to the Census and Statistics Department’s Quarterly Report on General Household Survey.

Of the total, 49.2% were male, whilst females accounted for 50.8%.

The labour force participation rate (LFPR) for Q3 2024 stood at 57.1%, with males consistently exhibiting a higher LFPR than females over the past year.

Total employment in Hong Kong during Q3 2024 was 3.71 million, with the median monthly earnings for employees at HK$20,000.

Meanwhile, the number of unemployed persons rose to 119,900, whilst underemployment was reported at 46,000. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained steady at 3.0%, unchanged from Q2 2024. Similarly, the underemployment rate remained constant at 1.2%.

In terms of household income, Hong Kong had 2.78 million domestic households, with a median monthly household income of $30,000 in Q3 2024.
