HK and Indonesia ink 15 deals on trading, commerce, and finance
The memoranda were signed during Chief Executive John Lee’s Jakarta visit.
Chief Executive John Lee, leading a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region delegation, visited the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway and meeting local merchants, where the pacts were signed between Hong Kong and Indonesia.
Government departments, enterprises, and institutions of Hong Kong and Indonesia signed 15 memoranda of understanding and deals in trading and commerce, finance, logistics, maritime services, professional services, exchange of meteorological information, and cooperation in aerospace technology.
Prior to this, Lee urged the local office of a Hong Kong insurance company, FWD Group, to understand its business development in Indonesia. He hoped that the group could share its successful experience with other Hong Kong firms seeking to enter the market in Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member regions.
The delegation attended a business luncheon organised by the Hong Kong SAR Government and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. Addressing about 200 local government and business leaders, Lee lauded Hong Kong’s development opportunities brought about by the strong support of the motherland and the close connection to the world under “one country, two systems.”
Lee also went to the Jakarta-Bandung High Speed Railway, which will be commissioned in August. He added that connecting Jakarta and Bandung - the capital of West Java Province and Indonesia’s third-largest city - the railway is a key project of the Belt & Road Initiative.
