Exports up 3.8% in December

Total year-end export volume to India ballooned to 69%.

Hong Kong capped the year with a strong trade performance as total export volume rose 3.8% YoY in December with re-exports growing 3.9% YoY even as domestic exports dipped marginally by 0.2% YoY, according to external merchandise trade statistics from the Census and Statistics Department.

Total export to India grew substantially by 69% YoY whilst exports to USA, Vietnam and Japan rose 9%, 7.9% and 7.6% YoY.

However, total export volume to the Mainland dipped 1.2% YoY. 

On a quarterly basis, the volume of total goods exports rose 2.6% QoQ with re-exports rising 2.7% and domestic exports inching up 0.3%.

Similarly, the volume of total imports of goods also rose 6.7% YoY with import volume from Taiwan rising 24.6% YoY.

Imports from Korea, Japan and the Mainland also rose 11.9%, 5.7% and 2.6% respectively whilst imports to Singapore fell 8.5%.
