All’s not well with Hong Kong’s women

They’re the most pessimistic in three countries.

A recent survey of more than 11,500 women in Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan by Starcom MediaVest also shows that young Hong Kong women are not learning to be the career-minded girls in the way today's career women are

The survey noted that this is a big societal change Hong Kong has to go through, and what doesn't make it easier is knowing that across the border are ambitious, driven women with a more competitive spirit.

Of all those surveyed, women in Taiwan were the most balanced and happiest.

The survey further revealed the following attitudes among Hong Kong women:

Hong Kong retirees and grandmothers are more disenfranchised, feeling isolated from their own children and grandchildren. On the other hand, Taiwanese grandparents are Internet savvy and connect with their children via social media.

Hong Kong “millennials” struggle to break through the glass ceiling to senior positions. In contrast, women on the mainland feel that there is no glass ceiling and they can go as high as they want.

Hong Kong millennials are often unfairly accused of being lazy and lacking initiative. Young Taiwanese women are less aggressive in achieving their goals than those from the mainland.

Hong Kong women are less entrepreneurial than their counterparts in the mainland and Taiwan

Hong Kong's career mothers are desperate for love from their children and disappointed when they don't receive it. Many older mothers feel neglected by their offspring.
